The first meeting of the Colonial America SIG will take place at the Schaumburg library on Saturday, March 16 at 12:45 p.m. All are invited to attend.
The SIG has as its objective the study of America’s 13 colonies – their creation, their history including a timeline for each, sources of information, identification of ancestors and relatives, understanding of the geography and an exchange of information by attendees.
Immigration and migration patterns will be explored and in-depth explanations of how to uncover information beyond names/dates/places will be discussed. Lineage societies will be explained and amazing resources like the Library of Virginia and the Germanna Foundation will be covered.
The first meeting will include a brief discussion of the colonies as a whole, a presentation regarding a extensive timeline of the Colony of Virginia and explanations of resources available online and in libraries that can be used to discover huge amounts of data.
There will be several handouts and opportunities for discussion.
Facilitators: Bob Allen, Mary Hoyer
