Today's Topic: Deep Dive Into Y-DNA
Y-DNA is particularly useful because it follows the traditional surname assignment path in most western cultures. If you are brick-walled on your father's father's father's line Y-DNA may be of particular interest to you.
We'll get into how Y-DNA tests are organized so you are clear on the difference between a 37-marker test and the Big Y and know which one is right for you. We'll present at least two case studies and talk about what you can do to enhance your own Y-DNA study. Lastly, we'll get into some of the resources that are available for Y-DNA and surname projects.
About the DNA SIG
This group focuses on learning the methods for analyzing DNA test results. We study topics such as autosomal DNA, mitochondrial DNA, Y-DNA and surname projects, X-DNA and ancestral admixture results. We'll also investigate third-party tools for analyzing your raw data and comparing DNA and gedcom data with test kit results from companies besides the one you tested with.
DNA can break down genealogical brick walls once thought impenetrable – but only if you know how.
This SIG endeavors to be interactive and welcomes your questions. Get ready to put your DNA results to work for you!
