Colonial America SIG - 8 Feb 2025

The Colonial SIG explores America during the Colonial Period. Past meetings have focused on individual colonies (Rhode Island, Virginia, etc.), conflicts such as the French and Indian Wars and Bacon's Rebellion, the Indian Slave Trade, land transactions, and much more.

Today’s Topic: Using Stitched Samplers in Genealogical Research with CAGGNI member Jenny Ross

Making stitched samplers was an important part of girls‘ education through the mid 19th century. These samplers can contain family information as well as information about specific schools and teachers. Jenny will use her 3rd great-grandmother Cyntha May’s sampler from 1836 as an example.

Jenny Ross is a lifelong embroiderer with an interest in family history. She is an engineer with the Federal Aviation Administration and lives in Mundelein with her rescued hunting dogs, Lennie and Gail.

SIG Lead: Mary Hoyer.

Mary has led or co-led the Colonial SIG since its inception in 2019.

CAGGNI SIGs are for members only.
