Colonial Special Interest Group - 16 Mar 2024

Interested in exploring your Colonial American roots? Then this is the special interest group for you!

March Topic: Life, Religion, and Technology in the 18th Century

Life for our ancestors in the 18th century was different from today. Genealogy research for ancestors in the 18th century depends on records that were kept by the church. Most civil records do not begin until the end of the American Revolution in 1785. The first federal census was in 1790. The church was central to the community in the 18th century, so it is important to understand how this influenced our ancestors. This presentation will cover the major aspects of life, religion, and technology in the 18th century to suggest how to approach genealogical research.
