Colonial Special Interest Group - 16 Nov 2024

November Topic: Occupants, Owners or Nations: Native Rights to Land

by Judy G. Russell

The history of land in America doesn't begin with colonial grants to European settlers, and it doesn't end with the admission of Alaska and Hawaii as states. From King Philip's War to the Trail of Tears and beyond, genealogists must factor in the impacts of conflicts between the settlers and the Native tribes already occupying the land.

Judy G. Russell, The Legal Genealogist®, is a genealogist with a law degree whoprovides expert guidance through the murky territory where law and family history intersect. An internationally-known lecturer and award-winning writer, she holds credentials as a Certified Genealogist® and Certified Genealogical Lecturer from the Board for Certification of Genealogists®. Her blog is at https://www.legalgenealogist.com.

Cost: Guests may attend for $5. CAGGNI SIGs are free for members.

About the Colonial Special Interest Group: Normally a members-only group that focuses on Colonial America research, this session is being opened to non-members, one in a series CAGGNI hopes to offer in 2024.

CAGGNI Members take note: Please register for the Zoom link specific to this meeting.
